As a movie enthusiast and closet writer, I have written many unpublished materials, including a movie series. It dawned on me that I could finally produce a 15-episode movie series I wrote a few years ago, using a production crew of just three people with AI. I will be the untrained movie director telling AI what I want, and my (1) AI engineer will implement the scripts to create the movie, imagery, and everything in between. Another staff member will complete building characters, graphics, and music. We projected that we could complete all fifteen episodes in under 30 days and deliver a real-life-looking, high-quality, high-definition 3D movie series. It is quite an exciting prospect.
That was when it dawned on me that we needed to decide on marketing and distribution. I have no background in the movie industry, so who would make the best decision for us? We turned to AI, which had access to online data and information that could guide us on all the steps and strategies to get our movie series to the distribution channels. Then it occurred to me that I had just lost my job as the Director and head of production AI had replaced me. AI is now the head honcho; AI is making business decisions.
That was when I woke up with sweat on my brow. It had all happened in my dream. I had been asleep for several hours. Yes, I indeed love movies; it is also true that I am a closet writer, and I wrote a movie series several years ago called “Lagos is Burning.” I woke up and realized that in my dream, I had replaced several movie directors and producers, over sixty production crews, numerous writers, graphic and image designers, hundreds of actors, and many more secondary workers who would have been associated with the production. As the CEO of my movie company, I lost decision and control to AI. That was when I realized that humans must engage in deep philosophical thinking while AI is busy with deep learning. AI may possess deep knowledge; humans have the power of wisdom for better decisions. I love AI, and it can transform our world for the better, but only if we make it so.
AI, unlike other technologies before it, which forced many to learn new skills to remain employable in a digital world, AI is different. AI can replace us and do our jobs. Efficiency and profitability are paramount for business sustainability, but they must not and cannot be at the expense of humans and families.
